I can't believe it's been years!!!!

Moving my studio and still making. Being a bad blogger

Thursday, July 19, 2012

It is still happening, my life that is. Unfolding in unpredictable ways as I try to make stuff. When I say Stuff I know that some take me as less than serious, but that is not the case. I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS AND DEDICATED TO MAKING ART, sorry for shouting but it's true.

It's $$$ that is always in the way and taking up time. This weekend we will be doing another show, outdoors away from the studio. I have reading material and projects that are mobile.

wish us well

I haven't forgotten the video project. There hasn't been much of a response, have you all abandoned me? Oh No, my worst fear, well one of them

I have to keep reminding myself to post at least once a week.
No video at the moment.

We have been very busy, it is the summer antique season and we've been running around to shows and the shops. I rarely get into the studio, and have really been reconsidering the whole idea of concentrating so much on making. It is hard when there is very little feedback or opportunity for showing. Maybe I am just depressed. In a slump.

okay

no more whining.

Most of my time

Most of my time is spent on "the business", a constant traveling roadshow where we try to make money so we can pay the mortgage.

I would just like to remind everyone that I am still here.

Trying to figure out how to be involved in the art world and make money.
I miss teaching. :(

I am in my studio right now looking at boxes and boxes of work that most people have never seen. If you have any ideas, or a gallery, let me know

Antique Week in New Hampshire

We're back from the New Hampshire show. I'm tired.
saw some very interesting 19th c. knitted doll socks. The photo was taken with my phone so a bit blurry.

And I purchased these 19th c. knitted doll mittens

Part 2 Final Crit

It's taken me a while, Thanks Rachel for the reminder.
super image heavy post
I apologize for the quality of some of these images. I think I need a new camera

Rachel C. - all of her tweets translated into a binary form and knitted

detail
Rachel B. - braided rug taken to extremes

Nabila - a beautiful contemplative space created with twined jute and rice
Michele - knitting and embroidery used to tell a story of memory and remains
Maud - defining a 3-d space with small details and lots of visual impact

Veronika- knitted and fulled forms in tension and dialogMatt - a commentary on contemporary art making, big and red
Madeline - a knitted cocoon - stifling - with mysterious sounds
Jen - humor with an underlying darkness- still photo
the video

I got you Babe from Jennifer Liu on Vimeo.

Eun Hye - knitting used to define a corner, with a punch card text in Korean
Andrew - poetics of a knitted fabric in the urban landscape
Alex - memory of home unravels and re-imagines itself
So you made it through the whole post, congrats

This group of students was all above average. It's taken me a bit of time to post because the truth is I am a bit sad that I won't be teaching at MICA in the fall. It isn't all bad news though. The course material construction will be offered again in the spring 2011, and I will be there trying to inspire another group. Wow I love teaching!!!

balloons

It was time to introduce a new project in class. This one has to do with form in space and textiles used to define space. I thought that it would be a good thing to start this off away from knitting and the machines. We began the exploration of form with balloons.

I don't think that the class was too thrilled with the material, but everyone pushed through
There was some fun

We maintained our calm demeanor
