Post Election

So all of the happiness and joy I have been feeling about the election of Barack Obama as president is tempered by the win of Prop 8 in California.

I've been moping around, complaining (ask Kenyetta) and in a funk, unable to put it into words.
Francis and I don't want to be married, but we don't want to be second class either.

This NY Times editorial helped me by echoing a bit of what I'm feeling.

I'm pretty appalled at my home state for that one. It will not go unchallenged. I feel like election day was one GIANT step forward and several small steps back.

I agree, you should have the choice. Suggested listening: The Hidden Cameras - Ban Marriage

I agree, but these things take time. I believe we are winning, however incrementally. Here in the heart of darkness (Oklahoma) we even see a bit of progress on a one on one level . . . out at work, respected, many places we feel safe and welcome. However, now where we need to be. But just think how things were 5, 10, 25 years ago? The universe will not let injustice stand forever. Keep the faith!
